Ahoy there,. sorry for my absence, I won't bore you with lame excuses, I simply lost the lust to blog for a while, never fear it is back now and I plan to share the little crafty bits and bobs I have been getting up too.
I hope you all had a brilliant festive season, now lets crack on with this glittery peter pan collar tutorial.
So firstly I placed and order from here, its an online haberdashery shop, and it is AMAZING!! I got this glitter craft fabric as glitter kinda came into fashion and I knew I wanted to use it to make this collar a bit special. Now I can't remember where I had got the pattern for the collar, but I am sure if you just Google search it will come up, I have seen quite a few people use it, and I love this pattern as it has the scalloped edges, which are a nice girly twist on the original peter pan collar.
I copied out the pattern onto plain white paper and cut it out very carefully. I then placed the white pattern onto the back of my glitter fabric and drew around using a marker. Tadaaaa you are pretty much half way through making the collar already!
You then have to cut out the fabric as neatly as possible. Because the glitter fabric is very thick the edges did not/ has not frayed, I am not sure what would happen if you used a different fabric, maybe you would have to hem the collar or seal the edges using heat.
Once you have cut out both sides of the collar all you need to do is join them in the middle. I have seen some people punch a hole in the fabric and use a button to join them together, however I took the easy way out and just sewed them together.
Now I was happy with it at this stage, but just felt it needed a little something else. You could literally put anything at the join of the collar, buttons and the like, but I decided to make a little black bow. These bows are super easy to make, I found a tutorial on youtube, again just search it and you will be bombarded with videos. I simply didn't want to add a video link here as I want to encourage you to do anything you like, you don;'t just have to do exactly what I have done. If you do the exact same thing as me, that is also fantastic and shows you have good taste :p (I jest )
I made a little simple bow out of black ribbon and sewed a little pearl in the middle ( they were lying around in my kit and I fancied using them)
And this is the final piece. At first I wasn't sure if I was going to use ribbon or chain at the back to tie it round my neck. In the end I opted for a chain, I just put a little hole in each side where the collar would sit at the back of my neck and threaded an old necklace chain through.
I love this collar, overall it must of only cost me a few pounds to make and didn't take very long at all. I took my inspiration from a top I originally saw in New Look which had a glitter collar, however is was £25. I thought it was a tad expensive, plus now any of my tops can have a glitter collar for a fraction of the price. It really does add a touch of something special to even the most plain of tops, so I urge you to get making! Oh and let me know if you do use/ like this tutorial and I shall do lots more for you.
